SYMPOSIUM ON SCIENTIFIC REFERENCES IN TELUGU LITERATURE - REPORT


I-SERVE has conducted a brief but beautiful symposium on the above subject on 1st April 2006 at 3pm in the conference hall of Ammavodi Complex in the premises of Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Ashrama, Dundigal, Hyderabad.

At the outset, Sri K.V. Krishna Murthy, the Chairman, I-SERVE, welcomed the large gathering of Scientists and Scholars and briefed them about the activities of I-SERVE and the purpose of the present Symposium. He requested the learned delegates to give more information about the areas where scientific references are available in the classical literature.

Renowned Professors from different Universities of Andhra Pradesh have enthusiastically participated in the symposium and in fact deliberated not only on the Telugu literature but also Sanskrit literature.

The symposium was presided over by Prof. Vedula Subramanya Sarma of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. He, in his Presidential address, made quick survey of the scientific references in the classical Telugu and Sanskrit literature.

Sri Telakapalli Viswanadha Sarma, Retd. Principal of Oriental Sanskrit College, Palem, co-chaired the Symposium. Prof K.P.R. Vittal Murthy, Dept. of Metrology of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Prof K. Malaya Vasini, Dept. of Telugu, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Dr. Julakanti Bala Subramanyam of TTD Tirupati, Prof. N.L. Mohan, Dept. of Geology, Osmania University, Hyderabad, Prof. T.R. Krishnappa, former Principal of B.Ed, College of Mysore, Prof. Attili Venkata Ramana, Dept. of Chemistry, P.G. College, Nuziveedu, Prof. C.V.V. Subramanyam, Telugu University, formar Prof. Badala Ramaiah, Dean of Telugu, University of Mysore, have participated in the discussion of Symposium and mentioned about 35 rare text books where scientific references are available in abundance.

The short but inspiring session lasted for around 3 hours and added new clues and hints for further book studies by I-SERVE. The Symposium came to conclusion with vote of thanks proposed by Sri C.B.K. Sastry.
